Additional Holux GPSlim240 - GPS receiver module Information

Holux GPSlim 240 is the latest Bluetooth GPS receiver from Holux. Thanks to SiRF's new low-power one chip design, GPSlim 240 is able to reduce the size without compromising on performance and battery life. Similar to the popular Holux GPSlim 236 Bluetooth GPS receiver, Holux GPSlim 240 is a 2-in-1 serial / Bluetooth GPS ideal for laptop and PDA navigation applicaitons. Furthermore, the SiRF III chipset provides excellent performance under any situation. * Note: To work as serial GPS, optional data cable is required. * SiRF Demo is not recommended.

What Customers Say About Holux GPSlim240 - GPS receiver module:

there may be better ones out there now. Sometimes takes a while to connect if you turn it on in a different location than where it was last turned off, but once connected works great. Purchased it a couple years back though.

I tried to get a new battery from any source anywhere in the world: THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT BATTERY FOR THIS UNIT. It worked quite well for about 10 months with my Nokia E62. Not the kind of service I expect. I was told by the HOLUX support team that I had to buy a new complete unit, because batteries are not guaranteed and they do not sell spare batteries. Then, the battery just went dead. It is a propietary battery.

Initial impression were very favorable. By far the worst complaint however, is the lack of support from Holux corporate for their products. The battery itself has no identifying information at all, which is unusual. I bought a Holux GPSlim240 over 18 months ago. The GPS itself began malfunctioning not long after that, rendering the issue moot. and sometimes it could only fix 3-4 sats even with a clear sky view. My advice if you buy a gps from holux: get one with a user-replaceable battery, because once you buy their products you are on your own.

Battery life fell far short of the manufacturer's claims: 4-5 hours on a good day. Holux steadfastly refused to provide the part number or any other useful information, insisting that I get support from the retailer (yeah right-i got it off ebay.). It wasn't even soldered in. Primary usage was in the southern U.S., and it could reliably see 8-12 sats from inside a car or on foot. No problem I thought, I'll just message holux for the battery part number, order a replacement part online and swap the battery.

It was my first GPS unit. The battery in my unit recently failed, requiring external power to operate. Acquisition time was often way up (no waas/egnos). Pairing with my Nokia E61 was easy and bluetooth range was adequate at about 20-25 feet (E61s tend to have very poor wifi and bluetooth ranges; I would not be surprised if another phone got significantly greater range). Inexplicably, it performed terribly on a trip to Europe.

I wrote the manufacturer and they advised me "to buy a new one". I had been using the GPSlim 240 for almost a year and suddenly, the battery went dead. THERE IS NO WAY OF GETTING A REPLACEMENT BATTERY FOR THIS MODEL.

You are then in the desert, hopeless.think about it before you buy products from Holux. And its manufacturer's website lists address out of US, no response to email request. Not even an address is provided for your to get it fixed.

BUt problems come out after a period of time. I rarely used it, only about 10 times in the 11 months. it is really a great product when it is brand new.

The worst thing is tha its warranty worthes nothing. You'd better get one from a local manufacturer. The cigarette charger was defective at the time it arrived.

The batter died after 11 months so you have to connect it to either the computer or a outlet for power for it to be working.
